Allen R. Moran

Obituary

Allen R. Moran, known affectionately as “Big Al”, 77 of Huntley, IL, died peacefully April 25, 2024. Allen was born July 24, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to Richard and Gloria (Scott) Moran. Al served in the United States Army as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War. On May 9, 1970 he married Grace Mary Dote. As a young man growing up in the stables, Al loved horses. As he grew older he would compete and later judge many rodeos. Whether it was in the truck, on the rodeo grounds, at the local watering hole or at a family function, Al never knew a stranger. He was a loving husband, dad, papa, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever be in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife of 53 years, Grace, his children, Jennifer (Michael) Gogola and Christopher (Amanda) Moran, his grandchildren, Jessica and Aleks Gogola, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2pm on Friday May 10th, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL. A celebration of Al’s life will be from 1-5pm on Saturday May 11th 2024, at the American Legion Post 673 located at 11712 Coral Street, Huntley, IL 60142. We hope all family and friends, old and new, can make it to help share stories, laugh and honor Al in a way he would be proud of. Food, drinks and yes “cowboys” will be served. I am so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. He must have been an extraordinary man to serve in Vietnam. May he Rest In Peace.

Grace Mary and family ~ I am not sure if you will even remember me, but I grew up next door to the Moran's. I remember when Allan went to Viet Name. I remember when he came home. It was a wonderful homecoming. Even though I was 14 years younger than Allan, he was always so sweet to me knowing I thought he was soooo cute with that smile of his. The last time I saw Allan was when you were selling Dick and Gloria's house and I bought some memories of theirs that I still have in my home. Reminders of the only neighbors I knew growing up. My sister Nancy was a couple of years younger than Allan, and sadly, she passed away in November 2021. I am so very sorry for your loss of your husband, father, grandpa, and friend. May your memories bring you through this time of sadness. I often visit Dick and Gloria as they are right by my parents at Irving Park. I will say a prayer for you all; I wish I could make one of the services. My condolences to all. This makes me sad to see....life really is short. Thoughts and prayers always,
